FAQ: Disconnection from We Energies
- I received a disconnection notice from We Energies. Does that mean my service will be shut off on the date listed?
Answer:
Not necessarily. The disconnection date on the disconnection notice means that your utility service is eligible for disconnection as of that date, but it won’t necessarily be disconnected right on that date. Whether or not your service is disconnected at that time depends on a number of different factors, including the weather, your balance, and your payment history with your utility company. You may still have time to take steps to avoid disconnection.
- What can I do to prevent my service from being disconnected?
Answer:
- Make a payment arrangement: Contact We Energies to set up a payment plan. This is often the fastest and simplest way to avoid disconnection.
- Self-Service Payment Arrangement Options:
- Visit we-energies.com
- Use the We Energies mobile app
- Call 800-842-4565 (available 24/7)
- Seek Energy Assistance: If you need help paying your bill, visit the Wisconsin Energy Assistance website for options.
- What if I have a medical or protective services emergency?
Answer:
If a disconnection would be detrimental to the health and safety of a household member, you can request a postponement of disconnection for up to 21 days. You can get these forms from either your utility company directly, or by contacting the Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC). Usually, the utility company will give you 3 days of grace to have the form completed by your medical provider. If you do not have the medical exemption form completed by then, they are free to disconnect your utility service.
- What if I still can’t avoid disconnection?
Answer:
If you cannot avoid disconnection by making a payment plan, obtaining a medical exemption, or other methods directly through your utility company, please call Miller & Miller at 414-316-3555 for assistance or guidance on your next steps.
